Meet Saint City North member Steve Rooker. Steve turned his back to the wind and gave CrossFit a go. He showed that if you never try you’ll never know what you’re capable of and that the burden of never trying is heavier than what the barbell will ever be. Steve, we are so glad you gave CrossFit a go and are a part of the Saint City Community.
I don’t know about you but if you have children who recently went Trick-or-Treating and returned home with a bag full of chocolates, it takes every bit of will power (in me, at least) to not sneak a few after they’re in bed. It’s really tough. I have to inspect and shuffle through a mountain of these full size cookies and cream and Kit Kat bars and all i can think about is “Which one will they not notice is missing?”
I’ve succumbed to the inevitable…COLDNESS and whilst I haven’t joined the growing list of people who clog my news-feed with photo evidence of their victorious pumpkin spiced latte purchase, I did however make a Pumpkin Protein Shake!
I have a soft spot for biscuits. They make me think of my Nanna. Growing up we’d visit often and she’d always make these little bite sized biscuits, biskuttini tal – lewz which translates to biscuit of almonds and that they were. Warm and chewy, with the smell and taste of almond and a single almond kernel placed in the centre of each…just waiting to be dipped into a hot cup of coffee or tea.
Well, today friends. I am not going to teach you how to make Almond biscuits because let’s face it, Nanna’s biscuits tasted so good due to the fact they were 3/4 sugar and 1/4 almond extract. I will tell you how to make another kind of biscuit, a healthier one, that won’t make you feel as guilty and also perfect for pairing with a cup of coffee or tea.
Meet Saint City South member, Tiana Ewing. Tiana shows we only have the physical capacity to be as strong as we mentally think we are and that having a growth mindset, allows us to realize that if we embrace challenges, strength forms. We’re excited to have you as part of the #SCFCOMMUNITY Tiana and look forward to seeing how much you can accomplish!
Last week I spoke briefly about my intense denial about summer being over, nothing has changed… You see, I grew up taking summer’s for granted, I grew up by the ocean.
Almost all of my most favourite memories involve the beach. As a kid, most of my shoes carried sand in them, camping was always by a beach, I chose beach fitness for school sport on Thursdays and I was practically a marine biologist by Grade 3, able to rattle off the name of any crab or sea creature lurking in the rocks. When I moved to Canada I shook the sand from my shoes, but it never left my soul. “Fish and chips” will always fit my macros, actually ANY seafood will and this is how I got to making a prawn (or shrimp as it’s called here) dish. I’ve been missing the heat, got all nostalgic and craved seafood.
With that, I bring you…
Yes! I’ll admit it, I’m in denial that summer is over. I’m just not ready for spiced pumpkin lattes, soups and stews…
This last week has brought warmth and sunlight. I have embraced what’s left of the fleeting feeling the heat brings because my friends…
