Imagine being able to move like you were 20 years old again. The benefits of restoring that mobility would be enormous.
It could reduce/eliminate pain, and prevent damage to your muscles and joints. The longer you walk around with restricted mobility the more wear and tear your body takes over time, and the worse joint and muscle pain gets. If this goes on long enough it can lead to irreversible damage, making it harder to participate in those activities you love (ie: CrossFit) with your friends or family. This can even start to affect your happiness. It’s very hard to be happy if you’re not healthy; ask anyone who’s been in pain for long enough.
To better understand the importance of having good mobility let’s first look at something we’re all very familiar with- blood pressure. Doctors take blood pressure because it’s vital, and can be elevated without you knowing. Having elevated blood pressure is a sign that damage is being done to your blood vessels. If it’s elevated for long enough something bad can happen and you can end up with a stroke or heart-attack.
Bad mobility is just like high blood pressure. You start to lose it without even realizing that it’s happening. Testing mobility allows doctors to assess the damage being done to your muscles and joints. As you start losing your ability to move well you may notice the occasional ache and pain but it usually just goes away. Then one day you notice that things are starting to hurt all the time. Just like blood pressure, the longer the body’s mobility is restricted, and the worse the restrictions are, the more the damage that will occur to joints and muscles.
